Budget-conscious travellers typically use the bus connection into the city centre; comfort-oriented travellers opt for taxis or rideshares, which are competitively priced given the short distance. Avoid pre-booked private transfers at the airport arrivals hall, they generally carry a significant premium over taxis for the same short journey. For regional travel, CP (Comboios de Portugal) runs train services along the Algarve corridor from Faro station, connecting westward toward Lagos and eastward toward Vila Real de Santo António. This is typically the most economical way to reach other Algarve beach towns, with trains running throughout the day. One honest note for first-time visitors: Faro itself is the gateway, not the destination for most beach trips. If your accommodation is in a resort town like Albufeira or Lagos, factor in the onward journey from Faro, the train is typically your best combination of cost and reliability, and the station is centrally located and well-signed. Within central Faro, skip the taxi for anything near the old town or marina. The distances are walkable and the streets reward it.
